Ways of Service to God

through the committees of

Jeffersontown United Methodist Church

 
 
 
ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL  This group meets every other month and is responsible for the over all administration of the church property and program.  Each of the other committees reports to Administrative Council about accomplishments and goals, and the Ad. Council coordinates the efforts of all in making ministry happen.  All committee chairs are a member of this council  as well as officers and, and several at large members as well.

COMMUNICATIONS Communications takes care of a wide variety of publicity kinds of items.  They have been working on our pictorial directory, name tags, advertising church events and several other things.  The committee meets as needed and works hard at carrying the Good News of what is happening in our church to others.

DAYCARE BOARD This group oversees the administration of our child development center.  We have a wonderful ministry here to the children and young families of our community.  They meet the third Tuesday of each month.

EDUCATION This is a group which will be responsible for maintaining a program of Christian Education for our church.  This mainly involves Sunday School, but will also provide other opportunities for education and growth.

EVANGELISM Bringing the Gospel to life is a focal point of this group.  This group oversees our follow up on first time visitors and making invitations to new people to come to our church.  They also organize spiritual enrichment events during the year such as revivals or the Walk Through the Bible seminar we had last fall.
 
FINANCE This group is responsible for keeping track of our ongoing financial affairs.  They look at monthly income, expenditures and giving to special causes.  This group is critical in helping us maintain a healthy financial picture and making sure we handle what God gives us in a responsible way.   Finance Committee meets the second Tuesday of each month.

GASLIGHT This group organizes and impliments one of the biggest fund raisers we have during the year.  Each September we sell bean soup at the Gaslight Festival, along with participating in the parade, providing parking, and many times much more.  This is a very important event for our church.   This committee works under the direction of and with the cooperation with the Age-Level Committee.

GROUNDS This group is a “hands on” working group that keeps the yard and grounds around the church looking good.  If you like yard work and gardening, this is the group for you!  We have a beautiful church and it takes a lot of work to keep it looking good, but many hands make for light work. You do not have to be on the committee to help!

KITCHEN The Kitchen Committee makes sure we have the proper equipment for our kitchen and that things are maintained and organized properly.  All those good United Methodist pot-lucks depend on a good facility in which to serve them!

LAY LEADERSHIP This is the “nominating committee” of the church and names are submitted for this committee from the floor of Charge Conference.  They keep round pegs in round holes and help everyone find a way of serving God.

NURTURE This committee does just exactly what the title implies.  They NURTURE.    This is the group that  watches to make sure we keep up with our shut ins and people who are ill.  They also work on receptions for Confirmation Class, for 90th birthdays, graduation and other similar celebrations.  The committee meets 3-4 times a year and does a great job of nurturing others.

OUTREACH This is one of the main “mission arms” of our church.  Outreach organizes mission work with Habitat for Humanity, Red Bird Mission and almost 25 other local and world wide outreach projects.  They provide you with opportunities to get involved in a meaningful mission project through our church.

STAFF - PARISH This is the “personnel committee” for our church.  They are responsible for overseeing the Pastor and hiring/evaluating church staff on an ongoing basis.  This group generally meets monthly.   Keeping a strong staff is a vital key to a good church.  This group is very important to our ministry.

STEWARDSHIP This group organizes and implements our fall pledge drive and year round emphasis on giving to the church.  Our church depends on loyal giving by its members, and this group encourages that.

TECHNOLOGY  This group has the responsibility for operating the sound system effectively for our worship experiences.  They operate the sound board for all services as well as train people to use it.  They also have plans for coordinating multi-media presentations during worship.

TRUSTEES Trustees are responsible for operating and maintaining our church building and equipping of the church and parsonage.    Keeping a sound and attractive facility makes strong ministry possible.  We have a large facility and it is important for us to take care of what God has given us.
Chairperson: David Westfall
 
WORSHIP Worship Committee coordinates special events all year long through creative worship experiences.  They gear up for special seasons of the year - specifically Lent/Easter and Christmas, but help with many others as well.  The Last Supper drama this spring was one of their projects, as are all special services at Christmas.
